Food that aid in weight loss

Whole Grains Vs Refined grain products

Grains are an important part of our everyday food preparation. We make Bread, pasta, Chapathis, Dosas, tortillas and other products using grains.

It is important to separate products prepared from grains as Whole grain and Refined grain products.

Whole wheat products, Barley, oats, corn products, brown rice are some of the examples for Whole grain products.

Examples for Refined grain products include Maida (refined wheat flour), white bread, white rice, white pastas, white noodles.

Make sure to check for the ingredients before buying any product thus ensuring you stay away from Refined grain products as much as possible.

Why whole grain products?

  • Whole grain products contain a lot of dietary fibre and minerals like magnesium while helps you lose belly fat.
  • Whole grains are loaded with proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
  • Whole grains contain low fat and 0% cholesterol.
  • Switching to whole grain products will protect you from diabetes, heart diseases and obesity.
  • Whole grains help keep your blood sugar level under control.
  • Including whole grains in your meal will make you feel satiated and full so helps keep you away from food cravings.

Why not refined grain products?

  • Refined grain products may taste better but they cause many health problems.
  • Refined grains convert into sugar as soon as you consume and hence causing weight gain.
  • They cause digestive diseases since the grains are stripped off of their fibre while refining.
  • They increase your blood sugar level as soon as you consume hence causing diabetes.
  • Consumption of refined grains increase the visceral adipose tissue in your body(the fat found around your waist and tummy) thus increase your abdominal fat.
We do not need more reasons to switch to whole grains, do we?
